Belize, formerly British Honduras, is located on the eastern coast of Central America and bordered by Mexico, Guatemala and the Caribbean Sea. It has some 450 cayes dotted along its coastline. Belize is also home to the second longest barrier reef in the world. Belize offers a lower cost-of-living, good health care which costs about 1/3 of similar health care as in the U.S., no building codes, a warm climate, a stable economy, a democratic government, friendly people, strong tax incentives and English is the official language. Tourism and scuba diving in particular, is the major driver behind the country’s economy, while production of citrus fruits, sugar and bananas are the main export crops.
